About your guitar teacher
Hello, my name is Shannon Liddy. I’ve been playing guitar for 14 years and teaching for the past 4. Sharing what I love with others has been incredibly rewarding. Music has had a lasting impact on my life. It’s not just something I do; it’s a part of who I am. Music has always been how I connect with the world, express myself, and stay creative. Playing guitar has not only deepened my appreciation for music, but also taught me patience, and discipline. Music is a beautiful gift enjoyed by many, and to share that gift with others is truly amazing. There’s something special about learning to play a song you not only recognise but love. And in our lessons, we'll do much of this, as well as discover what music can mean to you personally. My teaching style is relaxed, student-focused, and tailored to individual goals and interests. Whether you're just starting out or picking it back up, I’m here to support and inspire your musical journey. If you’re passionate about music, or just curious to explore it, I’d love to work with you.

Guitar lessons overview
As a guitar instructor, my teaching style is creative, interactive, and adaptable, with a strong focus on support and encouragement. I believe that every student has a unique musical journey, and I tailor each lesson to align with their personal goals and interests. My approach centers around creating a relaxed, enjoyable environment where students feel empowered to explore the music they love. When I was learning guitar, I truly appreciated how my teacher gave me the freedom to choose the music I wanted to play. This not only made learning more exciting but also fuelled my motivation to practise independently. I aim to bring that same sense of freedom and ownership to my students, helping them discover the joy of learning music they are passionate about. My goal is to foster a love for music that goes beyond the lessons and becomes a lifelong source of creativity and expression.

Guitar concept taught by Shannon
Shannon is teaching Keira guitar. They review "Riptide," focusing on hammer-ons, and then begin learning "Nonsense," working on the intro chords (Cmaj7, B7, Em, G) and different strumming patterns for the intro, verse, and pre-chorus. Shannon provides instruction and encouragement, and they plan to continue learning the song in the next lesson.

Shannon led Rhys in a guitar lesson, working on strumming patterns and chord transitions for the song "Riptide," as well as reviewing "Mission Impossible." Rhys practiced the verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge sections of "Riptide," including learning a new F major chord. Rhys was assigned to practice the C scale, "Mission Impossible," and the various sections of "Riptide," in preparation for learning a new "hammer" technique next session.

On May 29, 2025, Shannon taught Keira guitar, reviewing several songs and starting "Riptide." They focused on strumming patterns, chord transitions, and technique, particularly wrist movement and pick control. "Riptide" involves a specific chord progression (Am, G, C) and two slightly different strumming patterns for the verse/pre-chorus and chorus. Keira was assigned to find a more challenging song for the next lesson.

Shannon Liddy and Rhys H practiced the "Mission Impossible" guitar riff, explored the C major scale with correct finger placements, and started learning the song "Riptide" using a capo and basic chords. Shannon will send Rhys the Mission Impossible tab sheet, a practice log book, and the major scales sheet. The next lesson is scheduled for the following Tuesday.

Shannon Liddy taught Keira guitar, focusing on the songs "Hey There Delilah" and "2002." They worked on chords, picking, strumming, transitions, and the "slap" technique. Shannon suggested a more challenging song for the next lesson, contingent on Keira's continued practice.
