About your tutor

Hello! I'm Priya Chahar, a Mathematics tutor studying BSc Economics at UCL in London. My teaching philosophy revolves around making math engaging and understandable for school-level students. I specialise in A-level and GCSE Maths, specifically in calculus, trigonometry, statistics and mechanics. I do have a preference for teaching A-level concepts, although GCSE and below is perfectly fine too. With recent successes in A-level Maths, GCSE Maths and Further Maths, I want to help students achieve top grades using up-to-date knowledge of the content and exam boards, as I had to learn it and excel with it myself not long ago. I understand first-hand some of the tricky areas that create obstacles for students, and some of the tips to really consolidate understanding past rote repetition of processes. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and explore at their own pace. The aim of my tutoring is to reach potential and stretch past perceived limitations. Tutoring sessions are adaptable to learning style and need, e.g. more detailed concept-based lessons to improve understanding, going through harder problem-solving questions together and time dedicated to answering student questions about the sessions/external explorations in maths.

Class overview

As a dedicated math tutor for school students, my teaching approach is focused on making concepts clear and building a strong foundation. I believe in demonstrating problem-solving techniques and explaining concepts in a detailed and interactive manner. I tailor my lessons to suit each student's learning pace and style, ensuring they grasp the material effectively. Use of example questions and practice questions are part of my methodology to help students master specific concepts, applying them in context. If needed, a review of the entire course content can be achieved, or alternatively focusing on specific problem topics. For either I will use a mix of explanations with diagrams and drawings, questions and worked-through solutions to aid understanding. I can set homework to mark and go through in future sessions, subject to the student's current workload. Alternatively, if students need help with homework, we can go over the relevant topics and try similar questions to help with this. If there is still confusion after this strategy, I am always happy to help go through problems together. Through these methods, I aim to make math enjoyable and accessible for all my students.
