Teaching Statement – Arpan Chakraborty My teaching philosophy centers on making economics intuitive, relevant, and analytically rigorous. As a researcher in macroeconomics and monetary economics, I aim to connect theoretical models with real-world policy issues such as inflation, central banking, and household behavior. I believe students learn best when they actively engage with concepts rather than passively receive information. In the classroom, I follow a student-centered approach that emphasizes conceptual clarity before formal modeling. I use real-world examples, policy debates, and data-driven insights to explain abstract ideas. I also integrate empirical tools, particularly R and econometric techniques, to help students develop practical analytical skills. My teaching interests include macroeconomics, monetary economics, behavioral macroeconomics, and applied econometrics. I design assessments that combine problem-solving, data analysis, and short research projects to encourage critical thinking and independent learning. I am committed to creating an inclusive and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas. Beyond teaching, I actively mentor students in research and career development.
