About your economics tutor
My name is Petunia Witbooi, and I am a qualified ESL teacher with over six years of teaching experience. I hold a TEFL certification and have a strong background in English language instruction, academic writing, and curriculum support. My academic background includes a degree in Professional Acting for Camera, where I majored in scriptwriting, which strengthened my communication skills and deepened my understanding of language structure and storytelling. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with both children and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds. I have taught beginners who were learning their first English words, as well as intermediate and advanced students aiming to refine their fluency. I also have experience preparing students for international exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC, helping them improve grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence construction, and overall confidence in speaking. In my classroom, I focus on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and growing from them. I adapt my teaching methods to suit each learner’s needs, learning style, and goals. I believe that every student is capable of improvement with the right guidance, structure, and encouragement.

Economics class quick guide
My teaching methodology is student-centered and communicative. I believe that language is best learned through meaningful interaction, so I focus on creating lessons where students actively use English rather than just memorizing rules. I incorporate the Communicative Language Teaching approach, encouraging students to practice speaking through discussions, role plays, real-life scenarios, and guided conversations. At the same time, I value structure and clarity. I use the PPP method (Presentation, Practice, Production) to introduce new grammar and vocabulary. First, I clearly present the target language, then guide students through controlled practice, and finally allow them to use it more freely in communicative tasks. This helps build both accuracy and fluency. For younger learners, I apply elements of TPR (Total Physical Response), using movement, visual aids, games, and repetition to make learning engaging and memorable. For adults and exam preparation students, I focus more on functional language, critical thinking, pronunciation drills, and structured feedback. I also believe in continuous assessment through observation and correction. I provide constructive feedback in a supportive way, helping students recognize their strengths while improving their weaknesses. Overall, my goal is to create a positive, interactive, and goal-oriented learning environment where students feel confident and motivated to improve.
