Your english tutor - Michelle

Hey future students! My name is Michelle, and I am a compassionate, online English tutor with over 5 years of experience supporting diverse learners from elementary to adult education. I am skilled in creating personalized English lessons in creative writing, speech, debate, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. My goal is to foster a positive learning environment that encourages student confidence and participation in daily life. I also bring five years of complementary experience in social work, program delivery, and advocacy for vulnerable people, equipping learners with both academic tools and self-advocacy skills to thrive in life. With a Bachelor of Arts in Equity Studies and Women & Gender Studies and a Master of Arts in Criminology from the University of Toronto, I bring a unique perspective that values diversity, patience, and encouragement in every lesson. In addition to my 5 years of teaching English, I also completed a 2-year research project in 2024 that explored the educational experiences of 245 students, ages 12-17, across Ontario. This research was federally funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada and highlighted how different teaching styles affect students' learning experiences. This brings a unique perspective to how I teach and engage with students in my classrooms. I love theory, designing inclusive curriculum, and using strong communication, research, and facilitation skills to meet the unique needs of students from vulnerable and multilingual backgrounds. As I'm committed to advancing both educational success and holistic well-being, personal development is always a priority. I love dancing, swimming, and exercising as ways to maintain good mental health, which sets a positive tone for myself and the classroom.

English classes quick guide

Personalized & Student-Centred: I design lessons in creative writing, speech, debate, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, adapting to each learner’s goals, background, and level (elementary level to adult level). Clear‑Language Instruction: I prioritize clarity and accessibility, using plain language methods to ensure comprehension and confidence, especially for learners learning English as a second language. Confidence & Participation: I foster supportive environments that encourage active engagement, resilience, and self‑expression, helping students to confidently apply English skills in daily life. Equity‑Driven Practice: My BA in Equity Studies and Women & Gender Studies and MA in Criminology inform inclusive, culturally responsive curriculum design that values diversity, patience, and encouragement. Applied Research Insight: My federally funded, two‑year study of 245 students across Ontario highlighted how teaching styles affect learning outcomes. This research shapes how I adapt methodologies to maximize student success. Holistic Development: I merge academic skills with self‑advocacy and personal growth, recognizing the importance of mental health and motivation in learning. Individualized & Adaptive Delivery: In 1:1 settings, I tailor each session to the learner’s experiences, interests, and challenges, using interactive activities and digital tools to keep lessons engaging, accessible, and responsive to their unique needs.
