University of Ottawa Student Offering English Tutoring for Primary, Secondary, and University Students

My name is Geneviève Pilon, and I am a university student at the University of Ottawa with experience tutoring students at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. I have worked with learners of different ages and academic backgrounds, supporting them in developing strong skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension. My experience includes helping primary-level students build solid foundations in English, as well as assisting older students with academic language, organization, and overall confidence in their abilities. My teaching methodology is student-centred, flexible, and adapted to each learner’s age, level, and goals. I begin by identifying the student’s strengths, challenges, and objectives in order to tailor sessions to their specific needs. For primary-level students, I focus on building foundational skills through clear explanations, repetition, and engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote confidence and enjoyment in learning. With secondary and post-secondary students, I use a more structured and goal-oriented approach, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps and reinforcing understanding through guided practice and discussion. I emphasize active learning, critical thinking, and skill development rather than memorization. Across all levels, I prioritize a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and progressing at their own pace. My goal is to help students build lasting skills, independence, and confidence in their English abilities.
