Your english tutor - Madeline
My name is Madeline Jones. I have 6 years of experience specializing in english and literacy instruction. I have taught a wide variety of ages. I have masters degrees in both education and public health. I focus on literacy development, and the relationship between literacy development and community health. My specialties include phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and literature analysis. I am incredibly data-driven, and use assessments from my students to shape further instruction. My master's thesis in education tracked my students' literacy growth over the course of two years. The first year, the class grew an average of 2.1 years. The second year, the class grew an average of 1.7 years. I offered tailored guidance in literacy fundamentals, phonemic and phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and literature analysis. I believe in a comprehensive approach to english and literature development, firmly rooted in the science of reading. I also am a passionate reader myself, and facilitate conversations, connecting the books we read to the world around us. As an educator in a wheelchair, I am deeply committed to providing accessible education to all learners, with the accommodations they need to succeed.

English classes quick guide
One time, for a college class, we were asked to take a personality quiz of sorts; similar to the Myer’s Briggs test, this quiz was designed to tell its takers what drives them, what gets them out of bed in the morning. My quiz told me that I had true primary motivations: human connection, and a passion for learning. In my six years of teaching, I have found this to be absolutely, and unshakably true. I love using humor and compassion to connect with learners on a human level. Yet at the same time, I get to be driven. I get to analyze data, look at test scores, create action plans, and strive for growth. By, I get to honor both parts of myself; the human part, and the driven part. And I suppose my philosophy when it comes to teaching is born from this dichotomy. People are people, and are born to connect with one another. At the same time, we must learn skills that will prepare us for the world. I get to experience both this joyful exploration and this exponential growth over and over again through my students, and that brings me so much joy.
