Architecture Training for SketchUp, Interior Design, and AutoCAD Specialties

Student and Tutor focused on resolving persistent model orientation and navigation issues within SketchUp. They practiced core modeling techniques such as rotating the entire model, copying and scaling windows, accurately placing furniture, and applying materials to specific surfaces. The Student will continue decorating the model and prepare for the animation portion of their assignment for the next session.

The Student and Tutor spent the session learning fundamental SketchUp skills, beginning with software access and basic navigation. They practiced 2D drawing, 3D modeling using push/pull and offset tools, creating openings, and organizing elements through grouping. The plan for the next session includes working with a specific architectural plan and the Student getting access to the desktop version of SketchUp.

The session focused on the Tutor's architectural design workflow using SketchUp for 3D modeling, integrated with AutoCAD for 2D planning and Enscape for rendering. The Tutor demonstrated SketchUp's features, including navigation, section cuts, material application, and discussed its ease of use compared to Revit. The Student and Tutor also discussed the structure of future lessons, recommending starting with an existing 2D floor plan, and scheduled their first hour-long lesson for the following day.

Student and Tutor practiced advanced SketchUp techniques, focusing on rotating, scaling, and precisely placing 3D objects like sconces, windows, and doors into a model. They also reviewed the difference between SketchUp groups and components for efficient design. The Student will practice these skills independently before their next session on Friday.

The Student and Tutor successfully completed an AutoCAD assignment, resolving plotting issues by re-configuring layouts, setting plot styles, and generating floor plan and elevation PDFs for submission. They then transitioned to a SketchUp assignment, where they practiced object scaling, precise movement, centering techniques, and model optimization. The next session will focus on continuing the SketchUp project, including downloading new models.

Student and Tutor worked on advanced AutoCAD concepts, focusing on setting up layout spaces, creating and scaling viewports for floor plans and elevations, and integrating title sheets and external logos. They also practiced editing text within the drawing's title block and managing layers for consistent printing. The Tutor will investigate an issue with monochrome PDF plotting for the next session.
