Hello! I'm Shewanda Branch, an English tutor specializing in AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, and English. With a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Certification ELA 6-12. I have been teaching ELA for about 28 years now. Both virtually and in person, I strive to give my students the best learning experience possible. My teaching philosophy is that every child can learn! The techniques and strategies may be different for each one but the end goal is the same. Learning!! My philosophy revolves around personalized learning and interactive engagement. I believe in creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel empowered to express themselves confidently. It is imperative that students feel some sense of autonomy when it comes to their own learning. It is a personal journey. My job is to help to steer my students in the right direction. As an experienced AP English tutor, I specialize in interactive and engaging teaching methods that cater to both school and adult/professional students. In order for effective learning to take place, both the tutor and the student must be actively involved. This gives the student a sense of ownership when it comes to their successes or any failures. My approach is also hands-on and practical, focusing on problem-solving skills to enhance understanding and retention. Giving a student the answer without them actively trying to figure out the solution to a problem is not beneficial. The student must be allowed to implement what has been taught to see if they are capable of doing it on their own. I also make sure to personalize feedback for each student, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in essays. By giving students individualized feedback, they can see their areas of weakness and strength. I assess reading and writing abilities to tailor a specific plan for individual growth. By selecting reading materials and writing topics based on student interests, I keep the learning experience relevant and enjoyable. Additionally, I incorporate interactive grammar exercises to make learning dynamic and immersive.
