Hello, I'm Kate Papaioannou, a passionate English tutor with a Master's Degree in TESOL and a CELTA certificate. I have worked as an ESL teacher in a traditional setting (High schools) for over 20 years and in a virtual setting for over 9 years. I have taught English language learners of diverse age groups and nationalities, individually and in groups, scattered around the world. I am also pretty confident in using different video-conferencing tools for my online lessons. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive, enjoyable and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes and experiment with the language. I am a dedicated ESL, IELTS, Business, ACT English, and AP English tutor with a passion for helping students of all levels to succeed in their personal language learning goals. My teaching style is interactive and engaging, focusing on structured and systematic lessons that are hands-on and practical. I believe in being concept-focused and detailed to ensure a thorough understanding of the material. By utilizing multimedia resources and selecting authentic materials I make learning enjoyable and tailored to individual needs. I offer opportunities for genuine interaction, enabling my learners to experiment with the target language. My lessons are well-structured from the beginning to the end and learners know exactly what they are supposed to do thanks to effective ICQs. Depending on the focus of the lesson, the learners are involved into meaningful activities in various formats (e.g. pair work, group work) relevant to the general aim and the specific objectives of the lesson. My lessons follow an integrated approach to learning, i.e. all skills are given equal opportunities for practice. I make sure my error correction is timely and useful. I tend to correct major mistakes only so that I won't block the learners' fluency and demotivate them. In the end, I summarize the main points of the lesson and assign some homework for additional practice.
