About your music teacher
My name is Adrian, I am a 25 year old Viola player and teacher from Texas, and I’m excited to share my passion for music with students who are eager to learn, grow, and connect through the beauty of classical music. My approach to teaching is rooted in the classical tradition, focusing on building a strong technical foundation, developing expressive musicality, and cultivating a deep appreciation for the art of performance. I earned my bachelor’s degree in music from the Eastman School of Music, one of the most prestigious conservatories in the United States. During my time there, I had the privilege of studying with world-class teachers, performing in top-tier ensembles, and immersing myself in a rich and rigorous musical environment. The training I received at Eastman has shaped every part of who I am as a musician and a teacher.

Music lessons overview
My teaching style is centered on the values of discipline, creativity, and personalized learning. Classical music demands attention to detail, historical context, and a high level of technical command—and I aim to help each student build these skills gradually and thoughtfully. Technique is a major focus in my lessons, as it forms the foundation for expressive freedom. Whether it’s finger strength, posture, breath control, or phrasing, I take time to ensure students understand the “why” behind what we do. Good technique is not just about precision; it’s about unlocking your ability to truly communicate through music. In addition to technique, I emphasize musical expression. Classical music is full of emotional depth, and I encourage students to explore the stories, emotions, and ideas behind each piece. We don’t just play notes—we interpret, shape, and bring the music to life. This kind of work helps students not only become better performers but also more thoughtful and sensitive listeners.

Adrian Jackson guided jshparker in a violin lesson focused on improving bow technique, left-hand coordination, and rhythmic accuracy. They worked on scales, finger exercises from the Suzuki book, and pieces like "Lightly Row" and "Song of the Wind," with an emphasis on bow distribution, contact point, and using a metronome for practice. Adrian suggested practicing scales and arm level exercises and exploring scale systems for further development.

Adrian instructed Jeremy on violin, addressing Jeremy's left-handedness by transitioning him to playing right-handed. They identified violin parts, practiced plucking, and learned the correct bow hold, including the "windshield wipers" exercise for strengthening the pinky. Adrian assigned bow hold exercises as homework and will send notes summarizing the lesson.
